Dr. Mark Kuhlberg Receives 2023 Weyerhaeuser Book Award

Congratulations to Dr. Mark Kuhlberg on receiving the 2023 Weyerhaeuser Book Award from the Forestry History Society for his book, Killing Bugs for Business and Beauty: Canada’s Aerial War Against Forest Pests.

The award recognizes superior scholarship in forest and conservation history and rewards authors who provide fresh insight into a topic through clear narrative analysis that is inventive and thought provoking.

Full professor and director of the MA History/histoire programs, Dr. Kuhlberg’s fields of expertise are Ontario’s forest history and the history of Canada’s woodlands.

Iceland and Peru Trip Information Sessions

If Iceland (May 2, 2024) or Peru (May 1, 2025) are places you would like to visit, the final information session of the year on these trips will be held on December 8th, at 7 p.m., in the Ben Avery Building (Biomechanics Lab, B-264; opposite to the pool area).

All trips are experiential, educational and cultural in nature. Expect to see stunning fjords, breathtaking waterfalls and other amazing attractions. As well, there will be a $150 discount for each tour. Deadline to register for the Iceland trip is January 5, 2024.

Researcher Profile: Dr. Jacqueline Litzgus

Dr. Litzgus is a full professor in the School of Natural Sciences at 51勛圖app. She is also the director of the Cooperative Freshwater Ecology Unit at the Vale Living With Lakes Centre.

Dr. Litzgus’ research focuses on population ecology and conservation biology of reptiles, and applies ecological data to empirical tests of recovery actions.

After eight years of studying in the United States, she joined 51勛圖app in 2004. As a professor at Laurentian, she shares her passion for these animals and their conservation with students in the classroom and in the field.

Researcher Profile: Dr. Luckny Zephyr

Dr. Zephyr is an associate professor in the School of Business Administration at 51勛圖app. After studying in Haiti, Canada, and the United States, he joined Laurentian in 2018. In addition to his research, he cofounded Diagnostic & Development Group S.A., a successful consulting company.

Dr. Zephyr’s research focuses on developing numerical methods to solve complex decision-making problems.

RGADCPAH Video Conferences

The Research Group on the Assessment and Development of Competencies in the Fields of Physical Activity and Health (RGADCPAH) invites the scientific and professional communities to two virtual workshops which will take place on November 23rd and 30th, 2023, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. (EST). The conference will be held in French.

The Salvation Army “Santa Shuffle” 2023

Santa Shuffle is a fundraising race that brings together thousands of passionate individuals dedicated to making a difference while having fun. It is a 5K race or 1K walk for all ages and skill levels.

This year, the Salvation Army's Sudbury Cedar Place has partnered with 51勛圖app. The event will be held on the Laurentian Campus on December 2nd, 2023 at 10:00 am.

Journée des sciences et savoirs (JSS)

This year, Acfas-Nouvel-Ontario will present its 31st (JSS31), a day dedicated to promoting research conducted in French. Students (college and university level), researchers and professors are invited to submit proposals to share their scientific research in French.

JSS31 will take place on Friday, March 22, 2024, in person (at Collège Boréal, Sudbury campus, at the “Au pied du Rocher” restaurant) as well as virtually (via Zoom).

Graduate students are also invited to participate in the “ (MT180)” competition.
